What is OdoMate?

You pick a profile (business, functional, or technical) that calibrates how OdoMate asks its clarifying questions. Generated modules are OCA-compliant Odoo 19 Python with unit tests, integration tests, an auto-generated user guide, and a live Odoo demo — including role-based test users at each permission level the module requires, so reviewers can verify what each role will see before shipping. You can iteratively enhance existing modules by describing changes and uploading screenshots, download the module and user guide as a zip, or push to an Odoo instance. OdoMate is currently in closed beta, free to invited users.

Can I see examples of what OdoMate generates?

Yes — real generated modules are public at github.com/OdoMate-Org/example-modules. Each module includes the original business specification it was generated from (SPEC.md), the full code, tests, demo data, and the auto-generated user guide — published unedited apart from a human security review, so you can judge the output quality yourself.

Which Odoo versions are supported?

Odoo 19 Community edition. Odoo 20 support is planned as soon as it's released. Older versions (16, 17, 18) are not currently supported.

Who is OdoMate for?

Accepted Answer

OdoMate adapts to three user profiles. Business — owners, managers, and operators who don't know Odoo — describe the outcome they need. Functional — business analysts and consultants — shape requirements at the process level. Technical — developers — work at the model, field, and method level. The questions OdoMate asks change with your profile, so the spec captures the right level of detail for the audience driving it.

How does OdoMate know how technical I am?

You pick a profile before you describe the business need — Business (non-technical: plain language, no Odoo jargon), Functional (Odoo BA level: familiar with Odoo terminology but not Python), or Technical (developer: deep Odoo specifics welcome). OdoMate calibrates the depth and style of its clarifying questions to your profile, so nobody has to explain themselves. You can also switch profiles between sessions if a different one fits a different project.

Which languages does OdoMate accept for the business specification?

You can describe your business need in any language — English, Ukrainian, German, Spanish, French, Polish, and others. OdoMate reads the specification in your language, asks clarifying questions back in the same language, and preserves that language throughout the refinement conversation. Generated code, technical identifiers, and OCA conventions stay in English (as Odoo requires); user-facing labels follow your Odoo instance's locale.

Can I edit the generated code?

You don't edit the code directly — you edit the spec. Every module is generated from a structured specification that's saved to your spec library. When requirements change, update the spec and regenerate; the module rebuilds with the change, tests included. This keeps your modules consistent, traceable, and easy to evolve.

What if the generated module is missing something or has a bug?

You can enhance the existing module directly in OdoMate. Describe what's missing or wrong, attach screenshots of the issue, and OdoMate iterates on the existing module — you don't have to regenerate from scratch. The enhanced version lives alongside the original in your module library.

How does testing work?

Every module is generated with a full test suite — unit tests for models and business logic, integration tests for workflows, and E2E browser tests using Odoo's tour framework. Tests run automatically before deployment.

Can I test the generated module with different user permissions?

Accepted Answer

Yes. When you open the demo Odoo environment, you get your own credentials — not standard admin/admin. If the module you generated implies user roles with different access levels, OdoMate creates additional test users at each of those permission levels. You can log in as any of them to verify what each role can and can't see before you ship. This is designed for BAs and functional consultants who need to verify permission logic without setting up test users by hand.

Where's the user guide?

Every generated module ships with an auto-generated user guide — describing what the module does, how each role uses it, and any configuration steps. You can download the guide (alongside the module zip) from your module library at any time.

How is OdoMate different from using ChatGPT or Cursor directly?

OdoMate has the OCA knowledge base built in, generates a live Odoo demo instance you can click through, ships unit + integration tests, and packages the output as a downloadable Odoo module ready to install. Using ChatGPT or Cursor requires you to hand-feed Odoo context, run tests manually, and set up your own test environment. OdoMate compresses that setup work into a single spec-to-module pipeline.

How is OdoMate different from Odoo's built-in AI features?

Odoo's native AI (v19 and v20) works inside modules — helping users complete tasks within an existing Odoo instance. OdoMate generates new modules from a specification. Different job. Odoo's AI is also Enterprise-tier only; OdoMate targets Community edition first.

odoo-bin scaffold generates an empty module skeleton — you write everything from there. OdoMate generates the module with business logic, views, tests, and demo data — you review and refine, not write from scratch.
